Ohio State University President Ted Carter Resigns
Ted Carter, president of Ohio State University, has stepped down after acknowledging he had an inappropriate relationship, university officials confirmed.
Carter, 66, resigned over the weekend following a lengthy executive session held by the Ohio State Board of Trustees on March 7. According to a university spokesperson, the board was recently informed about the relationship by an unnamed source.
The board confronted Carter about the allegation, prompting him to admit to the relationship and offer his resignation, which trustees accepted.
In a statement, board chair John Zeiger said trustees were โsurprised and disappointedโ by the situation and emphasized that the university takes the matter seriously.
University officials said Carter acknowledged that the relationship involved a woman who was seeking state resources to support her personal business. The woman is not affiliated with the university.
The university plans to investigate the circumstances surrounding the relationship, including questions about a business filing that listed WOSU Public Media as the address for the womanโs company and whether any public resources were involved.
Reports later indicated the woman may be connected to a veterans-focused podcast called The Callout, which has been sponsored by JobsOhio. Carter has appeared on the program in past episodes.
The university has not confirmed further details about the nature of the relationship, and the investigation is ongoing.
