U.S. Government Cancels GIS Transport Project in Nairobi

Kenyaโ€™s ambitious urban transport plan has hit a major setback after the United States government cancelled its $44.8 million contribution toward a $60 million Geographic Information System (GIS) platform designed to improve traffic management in Nairobi. The cancellation comes amid changes in U.S. foreign aid policy, delaying critical transport projects in the Kenyan capital.

According to the National Treasuryโ€™s Energy, Infrastructure, and ICT Sector Working Group Report for FY 2026/27โ€“2028/29, projects under the Kenya Millennium Development Fund (KMDF) have stalled. The GIS platform, a core part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area (NMA) transport plan, was intended to integrate data across transport networks to reduce congestion and support long-term urban planning.

The project began in 2023 following President William Rutoโ€™s visit to the U.S. and a signed agreement with former President Joe Biden. Completion was initially planned for the June 2027 fiscal year, with Kenya contributing $12 million alongside the U.S. funding.

The KMDF NMA Multimodal Transport System was expected to improve coordination across Nairobiโ€™s transport networks, promote safer and more sustainable mobility, and drive economic growth. However, the GIS platform has only reached 30% completion, while key initiatives like zoning regulations and integrated policy guidelines remain unfinished.

Treasury officials have said the stalled projects may be revisited under the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA) in the next financial year, pending resolution of funding issues.

The cancellation adds to a growing list of U.S.-Kenya bilateral projects affected by changes in U.S. foreign aid, including trade tariffs and adjustments to USAID programs.

Ohio State Extends Season With 42โ€“9 Win Over Rutgers

Top-ranked Ohio State kept its undefeated season alive on Saturday, earning a dominant 42โ€“9 victory over Rutgers even with two of its best receivers sidelined.

Quarterback Julian Sayin delivered a steady performance, throwing two touchdown passes, while freshman running back Bo Jackson powered the offense with 110 rushing yards and two scores. The Buckeyes (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) pulled away in the second half after a slow offensive start.

Ohio State played without star wideout Jeremiah Smith, who leads the team with 902 yards and 10 touchdowns, after he appeared to aggravate a right-leg issue last week. Fellow receiver Carnell Tate also missed his third straight game due to lower-leg tightness suffered during warmups at Purdue.

Despite the setbacks, the Buckeyes led 14โ€“3 at halftime and then scored on four consecutive drives in the second half to seal the win and shift attention to next weekโ€™s rivalry showdown against Michigan.

Sayin completed 13 of 19 passes for 157 yards, including a precise 7-yard touchdown to Brandon Inniss that capped an impressive 98-yard drive. He later connected with tight end Max Klare for an 11-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Klare led all receivers with seven catches for 105 yards.

With receiving depth thin, Ohio State relied heavily on the run game โ€” calling 38 rushing plays to just 22 passes. Running backs CJ Donaldson and James Peoples also recorded touchdowns, helping Ohio State control the pace.

Rutgers scored its only touchdown on a 1-yard run by Antwan Raymond in the fourth quarter, but the Scarlet Knights struggled to generate offense. Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis finished with 81 passing yards as Rutgers (5-6, 2-6) prepares for a crucial matchup with Penn State to keep its bowl hopes alive.

Ohio Stateโ€™s victory marks the first time since 1973 that the Buckeyes will enter Michigan week unbeaten and ranked No. 1.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces January Resignation After Trump Clash

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Friday that she will resign from her congressional seat in January, marking a major shift in Republican politics.

The announcement was posted on her social media accounts and comes only days after Greeneโ€™s highly publicized clash with President Donald Trump. Once one of Trumpโ€™s most vocal supporters, Greene has seen her relationship with the president deteriorate in recent months.

Political insiders note that tension escalated after Greene pushed for the release of sealed documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender whose case continues to fuel national controversy. Her stance reportedly contributed to her falling out of favor with Trump and other GOP leaders.

Ohio Lawmakers Demand Stronger Safety Measures at OSU Wexner Medical Center

Ohio lawmakers are urging the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to strengthen safety protocols after a nurse was assaulted earlier this month.

In a joint statement released on Nov. 21, Rep. Allison Russo of Upper Arlington โ€” currently running for Secretary of State and State Sen. Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) called on the medical center to implement stronger, clearer security measures to protect both healthcare workers and patients.

The demand follows a Nov. 6 incident in which a postpartum nurse was reportedly choked by a man who was holding a newborn baby during a dispute with the childโ€™s mother. According to the Ohio Nurses Association (ONA), the nurse intervened and was assaulted before OSU police arrested the man. He now faces charges including assault, violating a protection order, and unlawful restraint, per Franklin County Municipal Court records.

The ONA accused hospital administrators of downplaying the severity of the attack and failing to follow proper post-incident procedures. OSU Wexner Medical Center later acknowledged that critical notification steps were missed, delaying support services for the affected nurse and staff until the next morning. The hospital stated that efforts are underway to prevent future lapses.

In their letter, Russo and DeMora pointed out that workplace violence has become a pressing concern, noting that the Wexner Medical Center has already recorded 402 violent incidents in 2024, most of them involving staff assaults.

The lawmakers urged the hospital board to:
โ€ข Improve surveillance and preserve incident footage
โ€ข Review and strengthen security protocols
โ€ข Increase security presence in high-risk units
โ€ข Continue negotiations with nurses and union leaders on violence-prevention policies

โ€œIt is unacceptable that our nurses are not adequately protected,โ€ DeMora said in an email accompanying the letter. โ€œOur healthcare workers must feel safe so they can focus on delivering high-quality care.โ€

As of Nov. 21, OSU Wexner Medical Center had not responded to a request for comment.
The issue reflects a nationwide rise in violence against healthcare workers, and staff at Wexner say such incidents are increasing while often going unaddressed by leadership.

Interstate 70 Westbound Reopens in Columbus

All lanes on Interstate 70 (I-70) westbound in Columbus, Ohio have reopened following a major traffic disruption caused by a dump truck with its bed raised, which struck two overhead sign structures. The incident led to the collapse of one sign and forced the highway to close for more than four hours.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. on November 20 near the Livingston Avenue exit, when the truckโ€™s raised bed hit the metal support structure holding the highway signs. One of the signs fell onto the shoulder, narrowly missing a vehicle, while the structureโ€™s right side collapsed.

Video footage from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) cameras later showed the dump truck continuing westbound, striking another overhead sign indicating the I-71 North exit was two miles ahead before finally pulling over. Initially, some drivers tried to navigate under the partially collapsed sign, but Columbus police quickly closed the highway to prevent further accidents.

ODOT crews used cranes to lift the fallen sign back into place and inspected the damage to the second sign using a lift truck. Motorists were delayed for over four hours before all lanes reopened just before 8:10 p.m., according to a Columbus police dispatcher.

Authorities are reviewing the incident to prevent similar occurrences and ensure highway safety for commuters traveling through Columbus.

The Pickaway County Sheriffโ€™s Office is investigating a fatal late-night crash that killed an 18-year-old woman and injured a teen passenger on Tuesday.

Deputies were called to Welch Road near Lane Road around 11:45 p.m. after an iPhone crash alert was triggered. Shortly after, a 911 caller also reported the single-vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta that had gone off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, 18-year-old Kyla Caudy of Lockbourne, was taken to Mount Carmel Grove City, where she later died.

A 19-year-old passenger was transported to Grant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say Caudy was driving north on Welch Road when the car slid off the right side, traveled through wet grass, and hit a tree. The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

Ohio State Launches Major AI Faculty Hiring Initiative

Ohio State University has unveiled a major initiative to strengthen its leadership in artificial intelligence by hiring 100 new tenure-track faculty members over the next five years. The AI Faculty Hiring Initiative is designed to accelerate AI research, innovation, and education as part of President Ted Carterโ€™s โ€œEducation for Citizenship 2035โ€ vision.

The new positions will be distributed across three specialized AI cohorts: Foundational AI, Applied AI, and Responsible AI & Cybersecurity. Faculty in each group will focus on key areas including AI theory and systems development, real-world AI integration, and the ethics and security of emerging technologies.

This expansion aligns with Ohio Stateโ€™s recently launched AI Fluency Initiative, which ensures every studentโ€”starting with the Class of 2029โ€”graduates with strong AI literacy. Students will be required to complete AI coursework tailored to their field, preparing them for a rapidly evolving job market.

Earlier this year, the university also introduced the AI(x) Hub, a campus-wide effort involving all 15 OSU colleges. The hub aims to encourage collaborative research, data innovation, and the development of AI tools that benefit society.

University leaders say the 100 new faculty hires will play a critical role in advancing AI research and supporting the growth of the AI(x) Hub. According to Provost Ravi Bellamkonda, Ohio State is committed to leading the future of education and discovery by empowering students and researchers to explore the expanding possibilities of artificial intelligence.

Initial faculty recruitment has already begun, with the first cohort expected to join Ohio State in fall 2026. These hires will add to the more than 300 AI-focused researchers already working within the university.
