South Africa Expels Israelโ€™s Top Diplomat over Social Media Post

South Africa has ordered Israelโ€™s top diplomat to leave the country within 72 hours, escalating already strained diplomatic relations between the two nations.

In a statement released Friday, South Africaโ€™s Department of International Relations and Cooperation said it had expelled Ariel Seidman, the chargรฉ dโ€™affaires at the Israeli Embassy in Pretoria, and declared him persona non grata. The move effectively bars him from continuing diplomatic duties in the country.

The South African government accused Seidman of repeatedly violating diplomatic protocols and undermining bilateral relations through social media posts that allegedly insulted President Cyril Ramaphosa. Officials also cited failures to properly notify South Africa of visits by Israeli officials.

Seidman had been Israelโ€™s most senior diplomatic representative in South Africa since Israel recalled its ambassador in 2023.

Within hours of the announcement, Israelโ€™s Foreign Ministry said it would expel a senior South African diplomat, Shaun Edward Byneveldt, ordering him to leave Israel within the same 72-hour timeframe in a reciprocal response.

Relations between the two countries have been tense for months, particularly after South Africa filed a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, accusing it of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Israel has firmly rejected the allegations and accused South Africa of advancing the interests of Hamas by bringing the case.

The diplomatic fallout is also likely to draw attention from the United States, a close ally of Israel. The Trump administration has previously criticized South Africa, accusing it of supporting Iran and Hamas โ€” claims South Africa has denied.

Last year, the United States expelled South Africaโ€™s ambassador, Ebrahim Rasool, following comments he made about the โ€œMake America Great Againโ€ movement.

South Africaโ€™s Foreign Ministry said the decision to expel Seidman followed โ€œa series of unacceptable violations of diplomatic normsโ€ and described the conduct as a direct challenge to the countryโ€™s sovereignty.

Some members of South Africaโ€™s Jewish community criticized the move. Karen Milner, chairperson of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies, described the expulsion as a drastic step based on what she characterized as limited social media activity.

Don Lemon Says He Will Continue Journalism After Federal Arrest

Veteran journalist Don Lemon says he will not stop reporting the news after what he describes as a late-night arrest by federal authorities, calling the moment a critical test for press freedom in the United States.

In a public statement, Lemon thanked supporters for standing by him and said the encouragement โ€œmeans the worldโ€ to him. He emphasized that he has spent more than three decades covering national and global events and has no plans to step away from journalism.

According to Lemon, a team of federal agents from the U.S. Department of Justice arrested him during the night. He said the action was taken in connection with his work as a journalist โ€” work he believes is protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Lemon described the current moment as especially important for independent media, saying a free press plays a key role in exposing the truth and holding powerful institutions accountable. He added that journalists across the country rely on constitutional protections to do their jobs without fear of retaliation.

โ€œI will not be silenced,โ€ Lemon said, adding that he looks forward to addressing the matter in court.

The Department of Justice has not publicly responded to Lemonโ€™s claims.

Columbus Police Ask for Public Help in West Side Homicide Investigation

Columbus police are asking for assistance from the public as they investigate a fatal shooting on the cityโ€™s west side.

According to authorities, 31-year-old James C. Pettigrew Jr. was shot Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of South Richardson Avenue. Police say the shooting occurred at approximately 3:18 p.m. Pettigrew was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators are urging residents and businesses in the area to review security camera footage that may have captured activity around the time of the shooting. Police are seeking video recorded between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on January 27 within a designated area of the Hilltop neighborhood, stretching from Fremont Street to Springmont Avenue and between South Wayne Avenue and South Burgess Avenue.

A Columbus police dispatcher said a 911 caller reported that someone entered a residence through a back door, went into the kitchen, and shot Pettigrew. The caller identified Pettigrew as her boyfriend.

Detectives say any video footage or information from the public could be critical to the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Columbus police. Security footage can also be submitted directly to investigators through the departmentโ€™s online tip system here.

โ€œOperation Clean Houseโ€: More Than 50 Fugitives Arrested in Government Housing

Law enforcement agencies across central Ohio arrested more than 50 fugitives during a coordinated operation targeting individuals with felony warrants living in government-funded housing.

The six-day initiative, known as โ€œOperation Clean House,โ€ was carried out over a two-week period in the greater Columbus area. The effort was led by the U.S. Marshals Service and included partnerships with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Franklin County Sheriffโ€™s Office, and other local agencies.

Authorities said the goal was to locate and arrest violent fugitives residing in HUD housing, improving safety for residents and surrounding neighborhoods.

โ€œThis operation shows whatโ€™s possible when agencies work together,โ€ said U.S. Marshal Michael Black of the Southern District of Ohio. โ€œEach arrest makes the community safer.โ€

According to officials, other arrests during the operation involved individuals wanted on charges including failure to register as a sex offender, strangulation, drug trafficking, child endangerment, and rape. Law enforcement also recovered firearms and illegal drugs during several of the arrests.

Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said removing violent offenders from subsidized housing benefits both residents and those seeking affordable housing.

โ€œWhen we take violent felons out of these communities, it makes them safer and ensures housing is available for families who truly need it,โ€ Baldwin said.

HUD deployed approximately 30 agents to Columbus to assist with the mission. Officials confirmed that all arrests were made without any critical incidents.

Kristi Noem Says Trump and Stephen Miller Directed Every DHS Actions

The United States is facing renewed public scrutiny following reports that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told aides that all actions she took in her role were done under the direction of President Donald Trump and senior adviser Stephen Miller.

The remarks, first reported by Axios, surfaced as criticism intensified over the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse and U.S. citizen, who was killed by federal immigration agents during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

According to the report, Noem made the statement privately as questions mounted about federal immigration enforcement tactics and leadership responsibility. The comments have since fueled calls from lawmakers, civil rights groups, and members of the public for transparency and accountability.

Legal analysts note that while federal officials often act within established chains of command, following directives does not eliminate responsibility when enforcement actions result in the loss of civilian life.

Minneapolis Shooting Under Investigation

The killing of Alex Pretti has drawn national attention.

Federal authorities initially stated that Pretti posed a threat during the operation. However, later-released video footage appeared to contradict that account, showing Pretti holding a cellphone and not displaying a weapon at the time of the shooting.

The incident prompted demonstrations in Minnesota and other states, with protesters demanding answers and changes to federal enforcement practices. The agents involved have reportedly been placed on administrative leave while investigations continue.

Broader Enforcement Concerns

Advocacy organizations and civil rights leaders argue the Minneapolis shooting highlights broader concerns surrounding federal immigration operations. Critics say aggressive enforcement strategies have led to serious consequences for immigrant communities and, in some cases, U.S. citizens.

Calls for independent oversight and clearer use-of-force policies have grown as lawmakers seek to determine how decisions were made and who bears responsibility.

As investigations move forward, the case has reignited debate over federal accountability, leadership oversight, and the limits of executive authority in law enforcement operations.

Les Wexner Seeks to Block Subpoena in Ohio State Sexual Abuse Lawsuit

Les Wexner Seeks to Block Subpoena in Ohio State Sexual Abuse Lawsuit

Attorneys for New Albany billionaire Les Wexner are asking a federal judge to block a subpoena that would require him to testify in a lawsuit connected to the sexual abuse of athletes by a former Ohio State University doctor.

Former athletes are suing Ohio State, alleging the university failed to protect students from Dr. Richard Strauss, a former team physician who sexually abused male athletes for decades under the pretense of medical examinations.

After repeated efforts to serve Wexner at his New Albany estate were unsuccessful, U.S. District Judge Michael Watson allowed plaintiffs to serve the subpoena by mail earlier this month. On Wednesday, Wexnerโ€™s attorney, Marion H. Little Jr., filed a motion asking the court to quash the subpoena.

In the filing, Little argued that Wexner has no relevant knowledge about Strauss or the abuse allegations and said the subpoena was intended to generate media attention rather than gather evidence. The filing states there is no public evidence showing Wexner knew about Straussโ€™ actions.

Wexner served as chairman of Ohio Stateโ€™s board of trustees during the mid-1990s, when the university quietly investigated Strauss and later ended his employment contracts. Attorneys for the former athletes argue that Wexnerโ€™s leadership role suggests he may have knowledge about how the university handled the matter, a claim Wexner has consistently denied.

Little said the alleged โ€œculture of cover-upsโ€ cited by plaintiffs supports Wexnerโ€™s position that he was never informed about Strauss during that time. He also noted that other trustees who served alongside Wexner have not been subpoenaed, calling the effort a public pressure campaign.

One of the plaintiffs, former OSU athlete Steven Snyder-Hill, rejected the claim that the subpoena is a media tactic. Snyder-Hill said Wexner does not need to have known Strauss personally to provide relevant testimony, arguing his role on the board raises questions about what university leaders knew and how they responded.

The State Medical Board of Ohio opened an investigation into Strauss in 1996, but the case was later closed without disciplinary action. Strauss later obtained another medical license after moving to California and died in 2005.

release of additional investigatory materials used in Ohio Stateโ€™s independent review of Straussโ€™ misconduct. While OSU published a 182-page report in 2019, the court will now consider previously unreleased documents.

Court filings indicate the ruling could require the university to review and release tens of thousands of records that are not protected by privilege. Ohio State opposed the release, citing cost and time concerns, but the judge ordered the university to proceed and provide an update within 30 days.

USPS Asks Customers to Clear Snow and Ice as Mail Deliveries Resume

As mail deliveries resume following a recent snowstorm, the United States Postal Service is urging customers to help keep letter carriers safe.

USPS officials are asking residents to clear snow and ice from walkways, sidewalks, steps, porches, and areas surrounding mailboxes. According to the agency, icy surfaces and heavy snow buildup can create dangerous conditions for carriers attempting to deliver mail.

Customers who receive curbside delivery are also reminded to ensure there is clear and safe access to mailboxes from the street. Blocked or snow-covered mailboxes can delay delivery and increase the risk of slips and falls.

The Postal Service says taking a few minutes to clear these areas can help protect mail carriers and keep mail service running smoothly during winter weather.

The Tepe Couple Case: Court Documents Reveal New Details in Columbus Homicide

Court records have revealed new details in the homicide case involving Spencer and Monique Tepe, who were found dead in their Weinland Park home late last year.

Monique Tepeโ€™s former husband was seen at the coupleโ€™s North 4th Street property weeks before their deaths while they were out of town.

Columbus police discovered the bodies of Spencer and Monique Tepe on December 30 during a well-being check. Investigators later identified McKee as the primary suspect. He has since been indicted on four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary. McKee has entered a not-guilty plea.

The affidavit states that on December 6, the Tepes were attending the Big Ten Championship game in Indiana with friends. During the second half of the game, Monique returned to the hotel. Surveillance footage reportedly shows McKee entering the coupleโ€™s residence that same day and leaving several hours later while the home was unoccupied.

Investigators also noted that McKeeโ€™s cellphone was left at his workplace in Rockford, Illinois, and showed no activity for nearly 17 hours between December 29 and December 30.

Friends and family members told detectives that Monique had previously expressed concerns about McKee, alleging ongoing threats following their divorce. One witness stated that McKee made repeated claims that he could find her at any time.

Court documents further indicate that Spencer told investigators Monique left the championship game because she was distressed over an issue involving her former husband.

McKee was arraigned last week in Franklin County, where a judge ordered no bond. If convicted, he faces a potential life sentence with parole eligibility after 32 years. He was initially arrested in Illinois on January 10 and is currently being held at the James A. Karnes Corrections Center.

The case remains under investigation.

President Donald Trump confirms that Ilhan Omar is under Federal Investigation

President Donald Trump on Monday announced he is sending former acting ICE Director Tom Homan to Minnesota, while also leveling sharp accusations against Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar in a statement posted on social media.

In the post, Trump said Homan would arrive in Minnesota โ€œtonightโ€ to oversee Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations and report directly to him. Trump described Homan as โ€œtough but fairโ€ and said he is familiar with law enforcement personnel in the state, despite not previously being involved in operations there.

Gregory Bovino Leaves Minnesota

The statement went on to claim that a โ€œmajor investigationโ€ is underway into what Trump described as more than $20 billion in welfare fraud in Minnesota, which he alleged has contributed to ongoing protests in the state. Trump did not provide evidence or details supporting the claim, nor did he specify which agencies are leading the investigation.

Trump also singled out Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat and Somali-born lawmaker, alleging that the Department of Justice and Congress are examining her finances. In the post, Trump claimed Omar, who arrived in the United States as a refugee, is now worth more than $44 million. No official confirmation of such an investigation or valuation has been released by federal authorities.

The announcement comes amid heightened political tensions in Minnesota, where immigration enforcement, protests, and federal oversight have become central issues in national political discourse. Trump concluded his message by saying โ€œtime will tell all,โ€ signaling that further developments may follow.
