Republican entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is set to face Democratic candidate Amy Acton in Ohio’s upcoming gubernatorial race to succeed current Governor Mike DeWine.
The 40-year-old candidate from Upper Arlington secured the GOP nomination after defeating challenger Casey Putsch in a closely watched and often contentious primary contest that began in early 2025.Ramaswamy’s campaign gained significant momentum with early endorsements from President Donald Trump, the Ohio Republican Party, and Governor DeWine, alongside backing from several Republican officials.
The biotech entrepreneur also strengthened his campaign by contributing $25 million of his personal funds.Over the course of the race, Ramaswamy successfully consolidated party support, prompting Dave Yost to exit the contest. Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel considered entering the race but ultimately declined.Putsch attempted to rally opposition within the Republican base by criticizing Ramaswamy’s policy positions and background.
