Wayne County Sheriff Officers Stabbed
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing incident that injured Sheriff Thomas Ballinger and Sgt. Dan Broome on the morning of May 12 in Congress Township.
According to the sheriff’s office, both officers were transported to local hospitals, treated for their injuries, and later released. Authorities said Ballinger suffered a stab wound to the arm, while Broome was stabbed in the groin area. Both are currently recovering.
Officials said the suspect has been taken into custody.
The incident happened after the sheriff and sergeant responded to a report of a suspicious person on Congress Road. Investigators said the man allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the officers as they approached him.
