41 year old Columbus Man Charged with Murder After a Suspected Domestic Violence Incident
A 41-year-old Columbus man has been charged with murder following a fatal domestic violence incident that left a woman dead and a juvenile injured early Saturday morning in north Columbus.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers responded to a report of an incident in the 900 block of North 4th Street at approximately 12:30 a.m. Upon arriving at the residence, officers found 45-year-old Tiffany Creech suffering from severe blunt force injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities also discovered a juvenile inside the home who had sustained injuries during the incident. The child was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police have not released additional details about the juvenile’s condition.
The suspect, identified as Michael Johnson, 41, was arrested at the scene without incident and has since been charged with murder.
According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, investigators allege that Johnson struck Creech with a baseball bat during the attack.
Police say preliminary findings indicate the incident stemmed from a history of domestic violence within the relationship, which investigators believe ultimately led to Creech’s death.
Neighbors React to Fatal Incident
Residents of the neighborhood expressed shock following the tragedy.
One nearby resident said she was awakened by the sound of emergency sirens and watched officers detain the suspect outside the home.
Another neighbor described the incident as deeply upsetting, noting that the Italian Village community is known for its close-knit atmosphere and that violence of this nature is uncommon in the area.
A longtime neighbor also said she had previously felt uneasy about the suspect’s behavior, adding that several women in the neighborhood had shared similar concerns. She said, in hindsight, there were warning signs but nothing that could have been acted upon before the tragedy occurred.
The Columbus Police Homicide Unit is continuing its investigation into the case.
