Columbus, OH – Starting May 7, 2025, all Ohio residents will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities, including courthouses and military bases. If you’re in Columbus or Franklin County, now is the time to update your license.

What Is a REAL ID?

A REAL ID is a federally compliant form of identification featuring a star in the upper right-hand corner. It’s required under federal law, originally passed in 2005 to enhance national security.

Why Do I Need a REAL ID?

You will need a REAL ID for:

  • Boarding domestic and international flights (TSA requirements)
  • Accessing federal buildings like courthouses and nuclear plants
  • Entering military bases

What Documents Do I Need?

To apply for a REAL ID in Ohio, bring the following to a local BMV:

  • Proof of full legal name and date of birth (e.g. birth certificate or passport)
  • Social Security number (e.g. Social Security card or W-2)
  • Two documents proving Ohio residency (e.g. utility bills or insurance policy)
  • Legal presence in the U.S.
  • Proof of name change (if applicable)

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Vatican camerlengo, released a heartfelt message:

“At 7:35 AM, the Bishop of Rome, Pope Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His life was one of deep commitment to the Lord and service to His Church.”

Just a day before his death, Pope Francis appeared before thousands during Easter celebrations at St. Peter’s Basilica, offering the traditional “Urbi et Orbi” blessing—marking his final public appearance. He had recently recovered from pneumonia but remained visibly fatigued.

The first Latin American and Jesuit pope in the Church’s 2,000-year history, Francis—born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires—was known for his humility, inclusive values, and unwavering support for the underprivileged, immigrants, and the environment. His outspoken criticism of political leaders and his commitment to reform sparked both praise and fierce opposition, especially from conservative circles.

According to Columbus police, the pedestrian accident took place when 44-year-old Tina Michaels, driving westbound on Morse Road, attempted to pass another vehicle traveling at 25 to 30 mph. As Michaels moved to the right lane to overtake, she struck Joaquin Estrada, who was reportedly in the right lane of traffic at the time of the accident.

Estrada was rushed to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he was later declared dead. His tragic death has left the local community in mourning.

Currently, no charges have been filed against the driver, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the pedestrian accident involving Joaquin Estrada.

Columbus, Ohio – A traffic disruption on the I-70 westbound ramp to I-71 northbound in Columbus, Ohio, occurred after a crash on Saturday evening. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m., leading to the temporary closure of the ramp and traffic restrictions on I-70 westbound.

According to Columbus police, a vehicle collided with a barrier, causing the ramp to be closed, followed by restricted traffic flow. Emergency responders from the police and fire departments arrived on the scene shortly after the crash. One person was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

In addition to the ramp closure, the left two lanes on I-70 westbound, near Kelton Avenue and Miller Avenue, were also blocked. This caused significant delays for drivers trying to access I-71 northbound.

As of 8:15 p.m., the restrictions remained in place, and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) reported ongoing traffic issues. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the I-70 westbound ramp to I-71 northbound to avoid further delays. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A juvenile tragically lost their life Saturday afternoon when struck by a vehicle on a private drive near Easton in North Columbus, specifically along the 2000 block of Oakland Park Avenue.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 4:20 p.m. after reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Authorities confirmed that a black 2011 Honda Pilot, traveling northbound, collided with the juvenile who had reportedly run into its path. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Honda were unharmed, but the age and identity of the juvenile have not been released.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is leading the investigation into the incident, with assistance from Clinton Township Police and the Columbus Division of Fire.

The Franklin County Engineer’s Office released the list of roads scheduled for improvements this season. Here’s a breakdown of the 10 targeted roadways and their expected traffic impact:

  • Alkire Road at Demorest Road Roundabout – Closed for 5 days
  • Morse Road (US-62 to Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road) – 5-day closure (exact dates TBD)
  • Leppert Road (Davidson Road to Weston Trail Drive) – Closed from May 30 to August 15

The university confirmed that two victims tragically lost their lives in this senseless attack, while six others sustained injuries, all of whom are recovering in the hospital.
